Dark Sky Utah helps photographers of all skill levels learn and master night photography. Utah is the perfect place for night photography because there are good locations within an hour of the Salt Lake area and amazing locations within a few hours.
All about Carly
and Ever since Carly was a little girl, she has loved spending time in the great outdoors. Some of her favorite activities included horseback riding, camping, and spending time with her extended family in Yellowstone. Whenever she went on a trip, she carried along her family’s film camera. She even bought her own film! To this day she still cherishes the picture she took back then.
In high school, Carly gained a great appreciation for history and science. Following in her father’s footsteps, Carly decided to go into teaching when she graduated from college. Carly graduated from Utah State University with a degree in History and a minor in Physics. She ended up teaching Physics at Orem High School for the next seven years. Her experience teaching physics gave her a great appreciation for the wonders of our universe.
While living in Orem, Carly met her husband Tim Stocks. Tim is also an outdoor enthusiast. Since those early married years, they have gone camping any chance they get. Carly got her first DSLR in 2011 and quickly fell in love with landscape and night photography. Since then, she has taken tens of thousands of pictures and has mastered the art of photographing the stars.
Today, Carly enjoys spending time with her family in the outdoors and taking pictures.
